I’m Kumar Anbalagan, a licensed Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) and founder of New Journey Immigration. At New Journey Immigration, clients work directly with me throughout the process — from consultation and application preparation to submission and ongoing representation — with the reassurance of knowing their case is being handled carefully and professionally every step of the way.

Most of my clients work with me from across Canada and internationally without needing in-person visits, including couples where one partner is outside Canada, while receiving direct communication, organized representation, and professional support throughout their PR process.

Inland or Outland: Understanding Your Sponsorship Options

Every couple’s situation is different. Whether your spouse/common-law partner is already in Canada or living abroad, the right sponsorship approach depends on your circumstances, immigration goals, and family situation.

Inland Sponsorship

For spouse/common-law partners already in Canada, inland sponsorship may be the most suitable option depending on individual circumstances. Where eligible, applicants may also explore additional options such as a Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) after PR submission and AOR.

Outland Sponsorship

For spouse/common-law partners applying from outside Canada, or when outland processing is the more suitable option, this pathway supports couples navigating sponsorship while living in different locations.

Additional Family Considerations:

Depending on your family situation, eligible dependent children may also be included as part of the application process where applicable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sponsor my spouse or common-law partner if they are outside Canada? Yes. If your spouse or common-law partner is living outside Canada, outland sponsorship is often an available option depending on your situation. During consultation, the most suitable approach can be assessed based on your circumstances and immigration goals.

Can I apply if my spouse or common-law partner is already in Canada? Yes. If your spouse or common-law partner is already in Canada, inland sponsorship can be an available option depending on eligibility and current circumstances.

Do I need to be in Edmonton to work with New Journey Immigration? No. Most clients work with me from across Canada and internationally without needing in-person visits. Whether you are sponsoring a spouse or common-law partner from within Canada or while your partner is outside Canada, the process can be managed through direct communication, organized representation, and scheduled consultations where appropriate.

Can my spouse or common-law partner work while the application is processing? If applying inland and eligibility requirements are met, additional options such as a Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) can become available after PR submission and AOR, allowing the applicant to work legally in Canada while the application is being processed.

Can dependent children be included in a sponsorship application? Yes. Eligible dependent children under 22 can also be included as part of the sponsorship application where applicable, depending on the family situation.

Do I need a licensed RCIC for a sponsorship application? While it is possible to apply independently, a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) is a licensed professional authorized by the Government of Canada to represent clients in Canadian immigration and citizenship applications. Spousal sponsorship cases often involve detailed forms, supporting documents, eligibility review, and careful preparation. A missing document, incorrect information, or application error can lead to significant delays, including returned applications and additional processing time. Professional representation helps couples move through the process with greater clarity, structure, and confidence.

How do I know whether inland or outland sponsorship is right for me? The right sponsorship approach depends on your relationship, immigration status, current location, family circumstances, and long-term goals. During consultation, the most suitable pathway can be determined based on your situation.

What happens during the free consultation? During your free consultation, eligibility can be assessed, the most suitable sponsorship option can be identified, potential concerns can be discussed, and clear next steps can be outlined based on your circumstances. If helpful, both partners can also be part of the consultation, even if they are in different locations. It is completely free, with no obligation to proceed.
